It Takes a Village...

Last week was a crazy busy week!!! We had five appointments and on top of that, everything from the vacuum cleaner, to the car, cell phone and washing machine broke. One morning we were all literally going in different directions. Jeff had an appointment to get his flu shot, I had a dentist appointment, my mom had E bug, the nanny had Parker and my dad took Jack to school. It definitely takes a village to raise a child (or in our case, children). Despite the insanity, we are grateful for the results of E's appointments and tests.

Baby E had an appointment with the nutritionist on Tuesday. She confirmed that E bug has reached 8 pounds and recommended she discontinue her iron supplement. Apparently, the iron was causing her body not to absorb nutrients and the nutritionist feels that now that she is off of it that it will help her gain even more weight. E quit taking the iron Tuesday evening and we hope that it also helps with her pooping. In other good news her diaper rash has finally healed!

On Wednesday Bug had her urodynamic study with the urologist. They had to perform the test five times and we were there for over three hours. Supposedly, it was not painful for E (mainly just uncomfortable) but it was extremely difficult for Mommy. I hated watching her have to go through the test. That being said, she got good results. From what I understand, the test measures the pressure put on her bladder when it gets full. You don't want the pressure to build up too much because it can back up into the kidneys which can lead to infections and ultimately kidney failure. Right now, E's pressure looks good. She had a couple of spikes/contractions that we are going to keep an eye on, but for now we don't need to catheterize her. Assuming E doesn't get any urinary tract infections in the interim, she goes back for a check-up with the urologist in three months where they will perform an ultrasound. Please pray that her pressure remains where it is, that there are no more spikes and that we won't have to catheterize her in the future.

On Thursday, E had her weekly physical therapy appointment. We are continuing to work on muscle development in her legs and arms as well as stretching and keeping her head in the mid-line. She seems to be responding well to therapy. She is also beginning to show signs of cognitive abilities, including cooing in response to talking, almost smiling and following objects with her eyes. HOORAY!!! Please continue to pray for her cognitive abilities as well as the movement in her legs.

Thanks as always for your continued support! Y'all are definitely a part of our village!
