We got great news today regarding Baby E. She did fantasic during her shunt placement surgery! Almost immediately after the surgery was over, she was extubated without complications and came back to her room in the NICU. She opened her eyes and was responding to us. She has even gotten to eat, which is her favorite thing to do. She does NOT have to be catheterized, and she's such a rock star that she is only taking Tylenol for pain. As Jeff said tonight, "She is our new hero."
The doctor said we no longer have to keep her on her back, she can wear diapers normally (instead of backwards and open) and we can hold her however we want. I'm just waiting on the neonatologist to tell me it's okay to dress her in some clothes. (I'm ready for her fashion show!)
Assuming she continues to do well, we should be able to take her home later this week. What a miracle! We are truly blessed with answered prayers. We still have bowel continence and lower leg issues to address in the future, but for now we think she's perfect!!!
Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers!

ReplyDeleteKayla, every time you get good news, I get chill bumps! I'm so happy that E is coming through this so well. What a great story you will get to share with her one day. Still praying for Erin and Hope, that they have a happy ending also.
