Prayers Have Been Answered!

What an amazing day! We received all kinds of great news regarding Baby E!

First, we learned that since she is doing so well she gets to come home tomorrow. Jeff and I just have to complete an infant CPR class, and Baby E has to sit in her car seat for an hour before she can leave.

Second, the results of her renal ultrasound were normal!!! As a result, she will NOT have to be catheterized. Hooray!

Third, she took and passed her hearing test.

And lastly, she moved her feet! The nurse who took her to the ultrasound said she thumped the bottom of both of her feet, and E responded and pulled them both back. (Prior to her surgery, she had no response to stimuli from her knees down.) Then when I was giving her a sponge bath and changing her diaper her right foot was twitching. Finally, when they took her blood pressure reading with a cuff placed just above her left ankle, she became upset and moved her left leg in response to the squeezing. According to the neonatologist, the body goes into "spinal shock" after having surgery on the spine (poor E had two in one week), and essentially becomes paralyzed. As the shock wears off, one can gain function. He said he couldn't guarantee anything, but that any movement (including the twitching) is a REALLY good sign.

Our prayers are working! That being said, I have a few more: please pray for cognitive function; more breastmilk (we are so close to our goal of 3 oz. per feeding); bowel continence (we may not know this one until she's 2-4 years old); and continued movement of the feet and lower legs!!!

We are feeling truly blessed and are anxiously awaiting Baby E's homecoming tomorrow!
